How do I know if Lindsey is the right counselor for me?
If you are a parent looking for counseling support for your child and family, or a woman seeking support for the challenges in your own life, I would love to talk with you.
My approach utilizes creative interventions like art, play therapy, and sandtray therapy, and brain-based interventions like Safe and Sound Protocol, somatic exercises, and an understanding of relational neurobiology to regulate the nervous system. Therapy is a highly individualized process that prioritizes the unique needs of each individual and their family. I am dedicated to collaborating with clients to identify specific therapeutic strategies that resonate with your/your family's core beliefs and assist you in returning to a state of emotional and relational balance.
Play Therapy for Children under 12 years
Before children learn how to speak, they learn through sensory experience, through relationship, and through play. When words are not enough and communication is not yet mastered, disruptive behaviors can emerge when children experience big emotions. All behaviors make sense if we look through the lens of a child and consider alternative communications like play. Specializing in play therapy and having completed hundreds of hours of play-specific training, I am fluent in the language of play and I utilize child-centered play therapy to help children better understand their emotional and relational experiences.
I offer a two-pronged approach when working with children and their families. Play therapy is a significant part of children reconciling their emotional experiences AND a collaborative parent-therapist relationship is equally important to the process of change. Families can expect regular communication from me to compare notes on events and behaviors at home and emerging play therapy themes in session.
Therapy for Adults and Teens
You may be struggling with anger, anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, or your identity as a parent. Life is hard and it comes with no guarantees. But we are not meant to walk these hard roads alone and healing comes through relationship. Many of our hurts and heartaches have started with relationship and it is through relationship that we find new beginnings.
As an integrative person-centered counselor, I am committed to helping clients heal from past trauma, cope with unexpected life events, and develop stronger relationships. For the young, and young at heart, creative interventions like art and sandtray therapy may be used in session to foster deep emotional healing and increase self-awareness. When we cannot find the words to express our pain, our heart and creative brain find a way beyond words. There is a story in all of it and the words will come when we are ready and able to speak them. My work is to stand by your side in the pit—to help you see the patterns and parts of yourself that may have you feeling stuck.
Additionally, as a certified Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) provider, I offer a powerful listening therapy designed to regulate the autonomic nervous system, reduce stress, reactivity, and address issues of anxiety, depression, and more. SSP can be delivered in person or virtually and is appropriate for both children and adults.
A little more about me….
I am a Colorado native and a mother of two. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and returned to school years later to pursue a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University. I transitioned to counseling as a second career after homeschooling my kids and working in education, fitness, and martial arts. My diverse experience helps me support children and parents facing challenging emotional and behavioral issues. My Christian faith is integrated into personal and professional relationships through the expression of compassion, grace, and love. I believe God has called me to the mental health field and I am grateful for His guidance and the privilege to walk with His children (young and old) as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
We are not meant to walk through suffering alone. If you are curious about what therapy with me could look like in your own journey, please call today (970) 670-0146 for a free consultation.
