Nurturing Healing - Cultivating Health - Inspiring Hope

My Journey to Becoming a Therapist

Hey there, I’m glad you're here. Just by reading this, you’ve taken a meaningful step toward healing and growth and that’s something to be proud of. As a fellow traveler on this path, I want to share a bit of my own journey.

You’ve probably heard of the “flow state”, that deep focus and creative energy you feel when you're fully engaged. I’ve experienced that flow most clearly through growth oriented relationships, and that sense of connection has been a guiding force in my work as a therapist.

My early jobs laid the foundation. As a lifeguard and swim instructor, I especially loved helping adults overcome fear and learn to swim. Their courage inspired me. In college, I studied Human Relations and worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, helping individuals with severe mental illness stabilize and reconnect with their families and communities. That experience solidified my drive to walk with others through difficult seasons and to provide support and resources for a better life.

In adulthood, I’ve led and served within local church communities, offering support during both joyful and painful times. These conversations, grounded in faith and honesty, eventually led me to pursue a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My work is shaped by my commitment to the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and to serving others with compassion, empathy, and evidence-based care. I aim to blend spiritual perspective and practical tools in a way that is respectful, nonjudgmental and deeply human.

I have learned that some of the most meaningful communication happens beyond words, through presence, gesture, tone and trust. Caring for a close friend through the final years of early-onset Alzheimer’s taught me how vital it is to hear and honor what is unspoken, especially when words fall short.

I love what I do. I’ve found my “flow” working as a therapist. Helping people grow and rediscover hope is a privilege and I’d be honored to build a supportive, healing relationship with you.

What You Can Expect in Our Work Together

My approach is warm, grounded and centered on your needs. I bring a calm, kind and sometimes humorous presence to therapy, creating space for honest conversation, reflection and growth. Every session is shaped around what matters most to you.

A strong therapeutic relationship is the heart of meaningful change. I believe trust, empathy and authentic connection create the safety needed to explore what feels stuck and discover new possibilities. You’ll be fully seen, heard and supported as we work together to build resilience and strengthen your emotional well-being.

My Areas of Focus

I work with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, loss, betrayal trauma, PTSD, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. I also help clients navigate faith-related pain, heal from spiritual disconnection, and process trauma linked to harmful experiences in faith communities. My primary focus and advanced training are in trauma recovery.

How I Approach Therapy

I use a blend of evidence-based and experiential therapies tailored to your unique needs. These include:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): A style of therapy that sees the mind as made up of distinct “parts” that each serve valuable protective roles, often shaped by past wounds. This approach helps you connect with and lead these parts toward balance and healing.

  • Brainspotting: A gentle yet powerful trauma-focused approach that uses specific eye positions to access and process unresolved emotional and physical pain stored in the brain and body. By identifying a “brainspot”—a point in visual space linked to deep neural activation—clients can unlock and release stuck trauma without needing to verbalize it fully. It’s often used for PTSD, anxiety, performance blocks, and other conditions where traditional talk therapy may fall short.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): To build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.

  • Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Techniques: To foster self-awareness, insight, and lasting change.

  • Neuro-informed Counseling: Drawing on the latest findings in neuroscience to support brain-based healing and behavior change.

For clients who identify with the Christian faith, I offer the Unhindered Clinical Instrument, a scientifically validated assessment of emotional and spiritual health which provides actionable recommendations for growth.  Clients have told me that the trailheads it revealed for therapeutic conversations have been transformative in their faith journeys.  It has certainly been helpful to me personally in untangling some of the messy parts of my own story with God and his people.

Education & Training

I hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University. My professional journey includes additional training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Brainspotting, DBT, Attachment Theory, Enneagram, Betrayal Trauma and Grief and Loss.

What I’m Like Outside the Office

I'm a married mother of two grown children and love spending time with my large extended family in the Longmont area. In warmer months, you'll often find me kayaking, walking around the lake with friends or laughing at the antics of my backyard chickens. In winter, I enjoy snowshoeing, catching up over coffee or curling up with a good book and the fireplace channel. Whether I'm with others or enjoying solitude, I find my flow in meaningful connection—with myself, with Jesus and with the people he brings into my life.

Let’s Connect

If you’ve read this far, you’ve already taken a big step toward change.  That shows me you recognize there must be more to life than “pushing through” or “snapping out of it”.  You’re ready for more than wondering and googling. You’re looking to be heard and helped.

I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful progress, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and supported from the start. That’s why I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to give us a chance to connect, talk about what you’re looking for and see if we’re a good fit. You’re already in motion; the next step is simple: reach out. We can figure it out together.
